Seven Critical Competencies of Teams
Businesses today must operate at high levels of competency in order to remain competitive. Businesses that aspire to stellar performance and results must excel at all seven critical competencies. Most businesses don't.
In our experience, organizations in which individuals and groups excel in the seven competencies find that they:
- Experience better results and are more able to seize opportunities
- Operate more fluidly, and successfully meet and transform challenges
- Experience higher employee retention
- Have employees who find and create more meaning in their work life
- Create an environment where employees are more engaged and aligned with the success of the organization, which leads to stellar results.
The Seven Competencies
- Relational—Capacities for connection, intimacy, openness and trust
- Sense Making—Capacities for making sense of the world and creating an objective reality together
- Autonomy—Capacities for maintaining and honoring individual and group integrity
- Collective Action—Capacity to act effectively, collectively
- Coherence—Capacity to integrate vision, strategy, behavior, experience and results
- Visioning—Capacity to align present actions with a clear vision of the future
- Learning—Capacity to fluidly shift between reflecting, letting go and enacting—to integrate learning
Individuals and teams can function at different levels on each of the above competencies, ranging from inadequate to stellar. We help organizations, teams and employees assess their level of competency in each of the seven areas, and provide the resources and training to advance to more effective levels of functioning.
